Cohen has been visiting SDIS every Tuesday for three months now. He has become quite comfortable in the Buzzy Bees classroom and with the students who I dare say have grown quite fond of him as well!
As Norwegian A students from the Risk Taking Raccoons and the Aesthetic Alligators come to the Buzzy Bees Classroom for their Norwegian lessons on Tuesdays, they have also been introduced to Cohen. Mostly, this has been during Cohens nap time, and he has often been sleeping next to us while we read our current novel out loud.
All students that wanted to read with Cohen in the Buzzy Bees have done so, and the offer was extended to students in the Aesthetic Alligators. The next group that will be invited to read 1-1 with Cohen will be students from the Risk Taking Raccoons. Only students that want to come and read with him will do so and I will be present to supervise.
Some students have told me that they are afraid of dogs, but that they want to try to spend time with Cohen to work on their fear. A few students were anxious around him at first, but are now happy to give him treats and cuddles as well as sitting close to him. This is truly amazing to see and
I am so happy to see children being comfortable around animals as we will meet so many of them throughout our lives!
We have also started to offer little walks with Cohen, and he will also join me in some conversations I have with students in my role as the School Counselor, as long as this is something that the student is comfortable with.
Based on the feedback from the students, I would say that Cohen has become a highly loved addition to our school community and the children are very excited to spend time with him.
Kind regards
